Introduction

Yunyou (允祐; 19 August 1680 – 18 May 1730) was an imperial prince of the Qing dynasty and the seventh son of the Kangxi Emperor. He was born in the 19th year of Kangxi's reign, with a disability in his right leg. His birth mother was Consort Cheng of the Daigiya clan. He was raised by Consort Hui of the Yehe Nara clan.

In 1709, Yunyou was granted the title "Prince Chun of the Second Rank" by his father. He later received a promotion in 1723 to become "Prince Chun of the First Rank." The Prince Chun peerage was not an "iron-cap" title, which implies that each successive bearer of the title would typically start with a lower rank. Yunyou's sixth son, Hongjing, held the title of Prince Chun of the Second Rank from 1730 to 1777.

Family relationships and marriage arrangements are documented through his consorts and children. Yunyou's primary consort was of the Hada Nara clan. They married in 1718, and she was the third daughter of her family, born on 19 November 1699; she died in July or August 1702. She bore him a daughter who held the title of Princess of the Third Rank, born in 1701, and died in 1729.

He also had a secondary consort from the Nara clan, married in 1714. She was the first daughter of her clan, born in December 1696, and died in December 1720 or January 1721. They had several children, including his first son Hongshu, who held the title Prince Chun of the First Rank, born on 21 January 1698 and died on 18 May 1738; his second son Hongzhuo, a general of the Second Rank, born in 1700 and died in 1743; and his sixth son Hongjing, who succeeded him as Prince Chun of the Second Rank, born on 24 August 1711 and died in 1777.

Additional children included daughters and sons born to different consorts and mistresses from various clans, such as the Li, Irgen Gioro, Fuca, and Chen clans. Notably, some children died in infancy, with death dates between 1703 and 1710, and some lived into the 18th century, with their titles and marriages indicated.

Yunyou's titles and rank promotions reflected his standing within the imperial family, while his progeny continued the lineage of the Prince Chun peerage, with his son Hongjing holding the peerage title until 1777. His descendants and family arrangements are documented within the broader context of Qing dynasty noble and imperial ranks.
