Introduction

Shuetu (1600–1643), Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, grandson of Nurhaci, founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty, second son of Li Lie Qinwang Dai Shan. Initially granted the title of Taiji, he participated in multiple wars against the Ming Dynasty and various tribes. In the sixth year of the Tianming era (1621), he accompanied the army to attack the Ming, specifically attacking Fengji Fort. In the tenth year of the Tianming era (1625), he and Wangur Tai aided the Khorchin tribe. In the eleventh year of the Tianming era (1626), he followed Dai Shan to campaign against the Kakka Barin tribe, and also fought against the Zaluot tribe; for his achievements, he was awarded the rank of Beile.

In the first year of the Tiao Cong era (1627), together with the Second Beile Amin, he fought against Korea and also participated in military operations against the Ming at Daling River, besieging Jinzhou. In the fourth year of Tiao Cong (1630), after the grand army captured Yongping, he and Amin garrisoned the area. Amin withdrew, and Shuetu was consequently implicated and stripped of his titles. In the fifth year of Tiao Cong (1631), he joined the army in attacking Jinzhou; when Ming soldiers entered Aji Ge camp, Shuetu fought fiercely and was wounded. Emperor Taiji personally went to the front lines to tend to him. When Ming forces reached the Daling River, Shuetu defeated Zhang Chun and wounded his hand again. During the awarding of honors, he was granted ten pieces of silk satin and a hundred bolts of cloth.

In the eighth year of Tiao Cong (1634), he accompanied Dai Shan from Kala Ebo to conquer Desheng Fort, defeated the Qi cavalry from Shuozhou, and together with his third brother Saha Lin, invaded Daizhou, capturing Guo County. They divided forces to seize Yuanping Post, and then advanced to conquer the Yuanping Post again. He was subsequently promoted to Beizi (Prince who holds a special post). In the first year of Chongde (1636), he joined the grand army to attack Korea, besieging Nanhanshan City and defeating over 20,000 reinforcements. In the second (1637) and third (1638) years of Chongde, he partnered with A Jige to capture Pidao, and with Jirhalang to attack Ningyuan. In the fourth year of Chongde (1639), because of overstepping and interfering with Emperor Taiji, he was demoted to Fuguo Gong (Supporting State Duke).

In June of the fifth year of Chongde (1640), he followed Dorgon in besieging Jinzhou. Due to prolonged residence outside the city and returning to the court secretly, he was discussed for demotion, but Emperor Taiji reprimanded him and instead fined him 1,000 taels of silver and re-affiliated him as Beizi. In the eighth year of Chongde (1643), after Emperor Taiji of the Qing passed away, Shuetu and his nephew Adali plotted to establish Prince Ru Dorgon as regent. They were accused and died, stripped of their titles and dismissed from the royal clan.
