Introduction
Maximilian Graf von Rotenhan (1820–1886) was the son of Luise Henriette Gräfin von Wallmoden, who was the daughter of Johann Ludwig, Reichsgraf von Wallmoden-Gimborn. Johann Ludwig was the son of George II of Great Britain and Ireland, making Maximilian a descendant of the British royal line through his grandfather. Johann Ludwig, known as a German lieutenant-general and art collector, lived from 1736 to 1811 and was the illegitimate son of George II by his mistress Amalie von Wallmoden. Luise Henriette Gräfin von Wallmoden, Maximilian's mother, lived from 1796 to 1851.
