Charles Morton Stewart, Sr.

Charles Morton Stewart, Sr. was born on July 16, 1828, and died on August 13, 1900. He was the father of William Plunket Stewart, an American banker. Through William Plunket Stewart, he was the grandfather of William Plunket Stewart. He was also the ancestor of Elsie Foster Cassatt, connected through her marriage to William Plunket Stewart. Elsie Foster Cassatt was the daughter of Marie Lois Buchanan Cassatt, granddaughter of Edward Young Buchanan, and great-granddaughter of James Buchanan, Sr., who was the son of James Buchanan, the President of the United States from 1857 to 1861. Edward Young Buchanan was a clergyman and the brother of James Buchanan. Marie Lois Buchanan Cassatt was also a niece of James Buchanan, Sr., and Stephen Foster, and sister-in-law of Mary Cassatt, establishing notable familial connections within American social and political history.
