Introduction
Alexander Patrick Gregers Richard Windsor, Earl of Ulster, was born on 24 October 1974 at St Mary's Hospital in London. He is a member of the British royal family and the only son of Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester. In his early education, Windsor attended Eton College, a well-known boarding school in England. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in war studies from King's College London. Following his university studies, he trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Windsor was commissioned into the British Army, specifically in the King's Royal Hussars, on 10 April 1998 as a subaltern (second lieutenant). His service number was 548299, and he held seniority from 14 April 1995. He was appointed to the Reserve of Officers on 28 April 2008, which marked his retirement from active military service with the rank of acting major.
Since retiring from military service, Windsor has engaged in roles within non-governmental organizations. He is a director of the Transnational Crisis Project, an organization involved in international issues.
On 22 June 2002, Windsor married Claire Booth, a physician, at the Queen's Chapel located within St James's Palace. Claire Booth is a professor of Gene Therapy and Paediatric Immunology at University College London's Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Together, they have two children: Xan Richard Anders Windsor, Lord Culloden, born on 12 March 2007, and Lady Cosima Rose Alexandra Windsor, born on 20 May 2010.
