Introduction

Yoko Miyagawa (born November 2, 1964) is a Japanese violinist. She resides in Lugano, Switzerland. In her musical activities, she also uses the name Yoko Miyagawa Paetsch.

Life and Career

She was born in West Berlin as the eldest daughter of composer Tadatoshi Miyagawa. She was raised in Ota Ward, Tokyo. From a young age, she studied the violin, beginning lessons at age three under the tutelage of Saburo Sumi. She later studied with Kenji Kobayashi, Takayoshi Waba, Roland Penvech, Akiko Aki, Jyunko Edo (viola), and the Tokyo Quartet (chamber music).

Regarding her education, she graduated from the Toho Gakuen School of Music, then advanced to Yale University School of Music, where she completed her master's degree. During her childhood, she attended the Toho Gakuen Children's Music School (Kakinoki-zaka branch), the Higashi Tokyo Oomori German School Kindergarten in Ota Ward, the Small Flower Kindergarten in Ota Ward, and the Den-en Chofu Futaba Elementary and Middle Schools. She also studied at the Toho Gakuen Children's Music School (Sengawa branch) and the Toho Girls' High School Music Department.

Professional History and Activities

Beginning in 1994, she became active with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Switzerland, the Ceresio Quartet, and the Alcovareno Ensemble. In the same year, she married cellist Johan Sebastian Paetsch from the United States; they have three children.

Since 2011, she has been performing with her family in a string quintet format across regions including Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and France. These activities mainly focus on chamber music performances.

Family

Her sibling is cellist Yuko Miyagawa. Her grandfather was conductor Hidemaro Konoe. There is a musical lineage in her paternal family.
