Introduction
Chen Hong, a woman, is married to Wang Zhenyuan, an advisor to the Beijing Municipal Government. Her father, Chen Henian, was the younger son of early CCP leader Chen Duxiu; Chen Duxiu was her grandfather, so Chen Hong is his granddaughter. She has four siblings; besides her, the other three are Chen Zhenxiang, Chen Zhenqing, and Zhenqi. The eldest daughter, Chen Zhenxiang, was labeled a rightist during the Anti-Rightist Campaign; the second daughter, Chen Hong, during a thought-reporting session, was convicted of “being a right-leaning opportunist who would overturn Chen Duxiu’s case.” The third daughter, Zhenqing, when she went to a shop to buy Chairman Mao badges, said, “Six jiao each, it’s too expensive,” and was designated a “counterrevolutionary.” The youngest son, Zhenqi, was sent to Inner Mongolia for countryside labor and stayed there for 13 years. After the Cultural Revolution ended, Chen Henian’s children gradually received policy placements; except for Chen Hong who remained in Beijing, the other children all relocated to Hong Kong.
In terms of her career, on March 2, 2012, Chen Hong arrived at the CPPCC’s venue for the Two Sessions in the Beijing Railway Building to report in as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. She spends about one to two months each year conducting field research across the country, focusing on public affairs. The proposals she brings focus on the “garbage siege” issue, reflecting her engagement with and concern for public issues.
