Introduction

Consort Hui of Kangmu, also known as Wu Hui Fei, her birth and death years are not specifically recorded, but she likely lived from the 14th century until 1424. Her father was Mongol Gongshunbo Wu Yuncheng (originally named Badu Temur), whose family originated from Ejin Banner in Inner Mongolia. In the third year of the Yongle Emperor's reign (1405), Wu Yuncheng led his family to submit to the Ming Dynasty, gradually rising to a prominent official family owing to military merits, residing in Liangzhou, and later being transferred to the capital. Over time, the family integrated into the Han bureaucratic system, losing obvious Mongol characteristics.

Wu Hui Fei was the concubine Hui of Ming Chengzu Zhu Di and was also the aunt of Ming Xuanzong Emperor Zhen Shun Hui Fei Wu Shi. Regarding her title, the "Ming Shilu" does not record her formal investiture, but in the "Ming Dictionary of Posthumous Names" compiled by Guo Lianghan, the chief eunuch of the Grand Imperial Secretariat, her posthumous title is recorded as "Kangmu Yigong," and she was honored as Hui Fei. She died during the Yongle period. The cause of her death is unclear, but it is speculated that she may have perished while accompanying Ming Chengzu in death (hunting). It is also speculated that she may have died by hanging.

Regarding her children, historical records differ on whether she bore a prince. Zheng Xiao’s "Wu Xue Pian" states she did not have any imperial sons. Wang Shizhen’s "Yanshan Hall Collection" mentions her having a "Fourth Prince Zhu Gaoqi," born in the 24th year of Hongwu (1391), while the "Ming Annals" explicitly record that she bore the Fourth Prince Zhu Gaoqi. Additionally, the "Record of the Great Governance of the Ming" suggests that Zhu Gaoqi may have been a child who died prematurely and did not reach adulthood.
