Samuel Appleton

Samuel Appleton was born on August 7, 1738, and died on May 15, 1819. He was the son of Isaac Appleton, who was born on May 30, 1704, and died on December 18, 1794. Samuel had a son named Francis Appleton, born in 1733 and died in 1816, who in turn was the father of Jesse Appleton. Jesse Appleton served as the second president of Bowdoin College from 1772 to 1819 and was the father of Jane Pierce. Jane Pierce was the wife of Franklin Pierce, the President of the United States from 1853 to 1857, during which she served as First Lady.
