Introduction

Yu Jing, born in Boston, USA, is the nephew of Ma Ying-jeou through his sister Ma Lijun. Among his family members, his parents had the greatest influence on him; however, publicly available information does not detail their specific identities. Yu Jing completed his high school education at a young age before enrolling at the renowned United States Military Academy at West Point, where he received rigorous military training. After a highly competitive selection process, he became an officer in the U.S. Special Forces, commonly known as the “Green Berets,” the official nickname for U.S. Special Forces soldiers. During his twelve years of service, he commanded various combat units and conducted military missions in Iraq, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.

Throughout his military career, Yu Jing participated in four deployments to the Okinawa base, including two operations targeting Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines. Notably, during a clearance operation in 2006, his unit captured an Abu Sayyaf base, earning him two Bronze Star Medals. In 2009, disillusioned with the discrimination against Asian Americans within the military, Yu Jing chose to retire. After leaving the armed forces, he went to Taiwan to study Chinese and published a book titled “Special Operations Green Beret,” which details his military experiences. He also founded a “comprehensive martial arts” sportswear and equipment company in Hong Kong.

After retiring from the military, Yu Jing wrote “Special Operations Green Beret: A Chinese Kid Becomes a U.S. Counterterrorism Commander” under the pseudonym Chester Wong. The Chinese version was released in Taiwan at the end of 2010. The book reflects his frontline anti-terrorism experiences and personal insights. Additionally, Yu Jing has been involved in crisis incidents, such as assisting in the rescue of Taiwanese hostage Zhang Anwei, who was kidnapped in Malaysia. During this incident, he coordinated with contacts in the Philippines to negotiate with the kidnappers, successfully reducing the ransom and helping secure Zhang Anwei’s release.

Regarding family, Yu Jing’s mother is Ma Ying-jeou’s younger sister, Ma Lijun. Family relations are harmonious. Though Ma Lijun remains low-profile, she has always supported her family members’ public activities. Yu Jing has publicly described his impression of his uncle Ma Ying-jeou as a filial and caring family man. He has also expressed opinions on social media, voicing concerns about Taiwan’s social security and the threats posed by terrorism, criticizing the deficiencies in strategies and emergency measures for handling large-scale terrorist incidents.

Currently, Yu Jing maintains a low profile and has not publicly disclosed additional personal or family details. His main activities include publishing, business ventures, and humanitarian rescue efforts. He currently resides in Taiwan and enjoys a degree of public attention and support.
